Tell a little bit about yourself and what you do?
I’m a 23-year-old Business student living in Montreal, and I’ve started a blog showing my health journey in March 2014.
How did you find yourself to smoothies?
Having full-time school and a full-time job, it’s not always easy to eat right. I love the idea of getting a quick nutritious breakfast even when you’re rushing out the door in the morning. Smoothies have been part of my life since my childhood; my parents would give me fresh smoothies as a snack to fulfill my sweet tooth.
What are your smoothie tips?
I like to use tropical fruits like mangoes or bananas with green veggies. These fruits are very sweet so they hide the bitterness of the greens. I also like to freeze some fruits to give an ‘ice cream’ texture to my smoothies and add almond butter or an avocado for a creamy texture.
Superfoods you can’t do without?
My superfood essentials consist of goji berries, chia seeds, shredded coconut and bee pollen. These ingredients are on my kitchen counter and always finding a way into one of my recipes.
How does your workout routine look like?
I like to change my routine frequently in order to work different muscles and to avoid ‘plateaux’. In order to develop muscular mass I train my muscle groups separately, so one day I’ll only do my arms, another day I’ll do my legs, etc. And on rest days – which are so important to me, I take some time to stretch and do yoga poses.
What being healthy means to you?
Everyone has a different definition – for me being is healthy is a state of mind off balance and peace. I’m the kind of person who needs chocolate once in a while, a lot of sleep and an occasional glass of wine. When I feel the need to, I listen to my body and I do it. For me being healthy isn’t something extreme or obsessive, I do the best that I can while enjoying myself at the same time.
What is your mission as a healthy role model?
My mission is to show everyone that being healthy and active isn’t only for athletes and that everyone– whatever their age or profession, can strive for a better, happy and fit lifestyle.
Favorite smoothie recipe.
My all-time favorite is a mix of coconut water, strawberries, blueberries, mangoes, basil and the ‘Detox’ superfood blend by Boost Yourself. I swear I get so much energy having it, it’s like having a healthy shot of adrenaline! Helena
